DTLA Graffiti Mural Stroll with Creative SoCal; a MeetUp
Looking forward to seeing some of the members of my MeetUp at the opening for a new exhibit at Hauser + Wirth of the early work of Annie Leibowitz.
Afterward, we’re going on a short stroll through the adjacent streets which are filled with graffiti murals by both local and international artists. Mural Conservancy link.
I have learned so much about these on tours led by artists who have been painting in the streets of L.A. for decades. Of course, they are the experts, but sometimes I like to show people artwork without talking about what we are seeing. The visual experience is the core of art, and biographical details of the artist’s life or historian’s theories about influences and meaning don’t have to be part of that visceral moment when we see art with full concentration.
What is ‘CAN CONTROL?’
Its not the locking up of spray paint cans… amongst graffiti artists those with excellent can control are able to make the most nuanced marks in spray paint, with no need of layout drawings or stencils.
