Visiting Matt Gagnon’s studio

Last Sunday I participated in the 8th annual deLab (Design East of La Brea’s “Design-n-Dim Sum Ride,” a bike tour of 3 creative spaces in L.A.
What impressed my most about Gagnon’s work was the sculptural variety of spaces, and design elements he created by playing many, many ‘games,’ with something as simple as a bunch of sticks with two holes in them. Screens that warped and folded, igloo like huts scaled for kids, and for groups, similar forms that were light fixtures. Very clever.
He was a very welcoming host, at our first stop on the tour.
